SFDA Detects Misleading Claims in Medical Device Advertisement and Takes Legal Action

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has detected a non-compliant advertisement for a medical device intended to reduce pain and improve joint function in cases of mild osteoarthritis. The advertisement contained inaccurate and exaggerated medical claims, directly violating regulations governing the promotion and advertising of medical devices and supplies.

In response to the violation, the SFDA took immediate legal measures against the violating company. Competent authorities closed the involved healthcare facility, and the advertiser was referred to the relevant authorities for further legal proceedings.

The SFDA highlighted that such violations fall under the purview of the Medical Devices and Supplies Law and its implementing regulations. Penalties under the law include a fine of up to SAR 5 million, temporary closure of the facility for up to 180 days, a ban on engaging in activities related to medical devices and supplies for up to 180 days, and the potential revocation of the license.

The Authority urges the public to report any suspected advertising or product violations via its unified call center (19999). It also emphasizes the importance of verifying medical information and treatment claims through official channels before making healthcare decisions.
