Drug Sector Participated at the Intellectual Property of Pharmaceutical Products Workshop

The Drug sector participated in the intellectual property of pharmaceutical products workshop which held at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce headquarter in Riyadh at 29 of April 2007. Prof. Saleh Bawazier vice president for Drug Affairs, Dr. Hajed Hashan director of Registration Department and pharmacists/Bassam al- Aown represented Drug Sector.

<p>Other participants were from Pharmaceutical and Medical License Department at Ministry of Health, Saudi Patent Office at King Abdul-Aziz City for Science and Technology, The Arabian Gulf Patent Office, two representatives from national pharmaceutical companies, consultants offices, German office specialized in intellectual property, a professor from Bonn University and an intellectual property specialized company from Jordan.</p>

<p>At the beginning, participants explained the essence of medicinal formulas intellectual property, how to earn it and take advantages from it. In addition, participant discussed the relationship between the intellectual property and pharmaceutical products and its importance on both national and regional pharmaceutical manufacturing.</p>

<p>Currently, drug sector is creating a database for patent pharmaceutical products in Saudi Arabia, and it will be available on the SFDA website once it started functioning. </p>
