SFDA to Host 7th Gulf Food Week Tomorrow

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), at its headquarters in Riyadh, will host the activities of the 7th "Gulf Food Week" during the period from March 27 to March 31, 2022, in cooperation and coordination with GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) and ​Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO).

This hosting comes to enhance joint Gulf action, and to contribute to unified Gulf technical regulations and specifications that help find solutions and overcome obstacles facing Gulf industries and facilitate trade exchange in the field of food among member states.

The 7th Gulf Food Week includes holding meetings of the GSO Technical Committee for Halal Products and Services "TC015", the GSO Technical Committee for Food and Agricultural Products "TC05", the GSO Technical Subcommittee for Food Labels "TC05-SC1", the GSO Technical Subcommittee for Additives and Food Contaminants "TC05-SC2", and the GSO Technical Sub-Committee for Tobacco Products “TC05-SC4”. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia holds the presidency and secretariat of three of the previously mentioned technical committees.

The meetings will discuss a number of important food topics and issues, foremost of which are the draft technical regulations and specifications for 2021 and 2022, the proposed projects to make notifications about to the World Trade Organization, and the projects that are in the distribution stage. The meetings will also review the reports of the work progress of the committees and work teams of the technical committees and take appropriate recommendations.

The workings of Gulf Food Week will be attended by Gulf Health Council which will attend the Tobacco Committee meeting, the Gulf Accreditation Center which will attend the Halal Committee meeting. This meeting will include the presentation of a number of working papers in the Main Food Committee, the Subcommittee for Additives and Food Contaminants, and the Subcommittee for Food Labels.
