“SFDA” Warns against Consuming (Themra) Honey Product

The Saudi Food & Drug Authority (SFDA) warns against consuming the honey product (Epimedyumlu Macun) of Themra brand as it contains “Sildenafil”, a prescription drug substance.  

SFDA has clarified that the product does not comply with the requirements of the technical regulations for honey (No.GSO147/2008), as it contains (Sildenafil) which is used under a medical supervision notably for people with liver, hypertensive and heart diseases and for people who have had a stroke. Additionally, it used for people using Nitrates based medicines to treat (angina). Also, Sildenafil is not allowed for people who are allergic to it.

 

Common side effects of Sildenafil include:

 

  • Headaches
  • Nausea
  • Redness
  • Face swelling
  • Dyspepsia
  • Blurry vision

 

The Authority pointed out that the product is being marketed electronically under false medical claims.

 

SFDA advises consumers to avoid consuming the product and dispose of any remaining amounts, noting it has taken the necessary measures in cooperation with specialized authorities in order to prevent the sale of this product.
